Olfactive Destinations For One Full Day In HK

Overlooking Central HK

You have one day to spare in HK. What can you do? Let your sense of smell guide you to this awesome place.

Grab breakfast at Australian Dairy Co. - SCENT NEUTRAL
For that toasted bread, milk, fried egg and coffee scents, grab your morning energy supply from The Australian Dairy Co. at Kowloon.  Order their milk pudding (hot or cold), toasted bread with milky scrambled eggs, and their fresh milk.

Cold Milk Pudding. I suggest ordering the hot one.
The place is small and crowded. With this, you'll be sharing your table to strangers. Thus, expect the queue to be about 5 meters long and to eat really fast. This is no Starbucks coffee shop.

AVENUE OF STARS - SCENT NEUTRAL
Next stop is Avenue of Stars. Enjoy the cool morning sea breeze enjoying the park.  Go through the history of Hongkong cinema.  You'll see hand stamps of famous HK artists, much like Hollywood Walk of Fame.  There is nothing to eat here except for the grilled squid located in the park.

Avenue of Stars
HK should plant more flowering plants. The place needs color. Lots of it.
At the end of the park is the entrance to the ferry ride that will take you to Central. Grab an egg tart from the only bread store / bakery stall at the terminal entrance. A trip to HK will not be complete if eating egg tart will not be part of your itinerary.

There's the KCR Clock Tower nearby. You won't miss it.

FESTIVAL WALK & CORNWALL STREET PARK - SCENT NEUTRAL
Head on to Festival Walk mall for your shopping session.  The place is not as big as IFC but you'll have all the necessary shops for fashion, electronics, toys and fragrance needs. What's nice about this place is the basement where the supermarket, food and salads are.

Treat yourself with gustatory choices from the grocery and eat at Cornwall Street Park. Savour your lunch with the grassy green breeze.  There's an occasional whiff of tobacco coming from smokers by the side of the park, closest to the mall. It's quaint, small and accommodating. Office employees will be your lunch buddies here.

Lunch At The Park
There's also an occasional whiff of steamed dumplings dipped in chilli soy sauce and the sweet pancake. Relax and unwind while packing on the energy for your next stop - CENTRAL SHOPPING. And trust me, you need that much.

CENTRAL - SCENTSATIONAL
The place to shop in HK. Waste away your money in this shopping mecca and mall hop from IFC to Worldwide Plaza to the Landmark and to Pacific Place. Spend your entire afternoon in this place or until financial supply lasts.

Have some dimsum for your snack. A definite must-eat includes truffle, shrimp and spare ribs dimsum. Don't forget to eat xiao long bao. Your dimsum experience will NEVER EVER BE complete without it. Places to eat include Tim Ho Wan and Canton Kitchen Dimsum Expert or just chow on whatever street food you encounter. It's gonna be a real treat. This is where your olfactive senses confirm that most of the scent in HK is actually dumplings and soy sauce and soya oil.

That smell of dimsum, dumplings, soy sauce and soya oil.

LAB MADE ICE CREAM - SENSORIAL OVERLOAD
Have a freshly-made ice cream with liquid nitrogen to freeze this moment. One of the best ice creams in the world, this ice cream booth offers unique flavor choices.  As their menu changes regularly, the custard bun flavor ice cream I had may no longer be avaialble on your visit.  Always go for flavours only found in HK. Most likely 80% of the flavour choices will be unique to HK.

VICTORIA'S PEAK - SENSORIAL OVERLOAD
Head to Victoria's Peak at dusk.  Best to hit that place at night as it overlooks artificially burning Central and Kowloon.  If you are an urban dweller, then you will enjoy this view.  The cool breeze is also assured.

There's a shopping mall inside and a handful of restaurants in the area.  Eat dinner here if you are already hungry.  There is also an egg tart store at the mall closest to the bus terminal.  This is also a must-try.

This is just a very calming view.
Grab coffee or wine as you end the day.  This view is just calming and truly memorable way to end your day.
