Hongkong Birthday Trip Day 1 (Continuation)

As soon as we landed, we were greeted by Rayo's mom, Tita Fe. What's nice is she has been there for 25 years or so. Hence, going around was a breeze.

Of HKIA: SCENT NEUTRAL

  • smells clean and disinfected: of pine and lemon scent (very early morning, few passengers)
  • morning dew (It was drizzling when we arrived)
Immigration was easy. Our baggages were already in their respective belts as soon as we got out. Experience was very fresh and clean, like that of the airport!

Of City Flyer: SCENT NEUTRAL
I think it's better to take the bus than the train since it requires less number of steps. I should take this into consideration the next time I travel to a place with good bus system. It felt safe too because they have speed limiters (60kph).

  • leather scent (thank God for the absence of those cheap lemon, pine air freshener)

After we dropped off our items in the hotel, we immediately took the train to Ngong Ping, Went out of the Tung Ching Station

Of Tung Ching Station: SCENTSATIONAL

Tung Ching Station
  • Savoury scent of sesame oil, dumplings
  • Sweet bread and vanilla
  • Freshly baked sweet bread
  • Confectionery sugar

Of Ngong Ping & Cable Car: SCENT NEUTRAL
  • Morning rain
  • Water mist
  • Cool breeze
  • Fog
  • Damp soil and leaves
  • sesame oil
  • sandalwood incense
  • smell of new clothes
  • dried plum and sweet ginger (there was a traditional Chinese medicine store at Ngong Ping)
It's my second time at Ngong Ping. The only reason I wanted to go there was the outlet store located at the mall near the cable car going to Ngong Ping.

First time

Again, it was raining so we didn't see anything as soon as we were inside the cable car. All we saw was fog and cloud and more fog and cloud. LOL

Cable Car Ride. This would have been very scenic including a view of the HKIA runway.

Rainy Ngong Ping

We did a little bit of shopping at the outlet store. I suggest going there on a weekday. Weekends are for mainland Chinese. And when I say mainland Chinese, as if the whole China is there.

We headed to back to Central and had our late lunch at:

Dear Chinese friends, what does this mean?
Of Beef Curry with Rice: SCENT NEUTRAL

I still prefer ASEAN curries over this.

  • floral pungent curry
  • no coconut note (as usually done in ASEAN countries)
  • fragrant rice like that of jasmine rice

Of Choi Sum: SCENTSATIONAL

  • green
  • garlic
  • flour
  • Chinese cooking oil (sesame perhaps)
  • Chinese wine (sauteed)

Of Pork Chop with Gravy (my order): SCENT BLEH

I did not like this much. I find it too safe and too not Chinese cuisine
  • flour-y gravy
  • with a bit chicken flavor
  • sweet, caramelized white onion
  • soft pork chop
  • rancid oil

Of Fried Noodles with Beef: SCENTSATIONAL

This one is the bomb!
  • soft beef
  • rancid Chinese oil
  • too flavourful
  • fatty
  • meaty
  • garlic
  • sweet onion

We headed to Dr. Jose Rizal's house. Climbed numerous stairs. Forgot how many. But used the escalators, of course.

Central Escalator
  • scent of pizza
  • grilled food
  • charcoal smoke
  • fried oil
  • sweet custard bun
  • vanilla
